Get to Know Saskatchewan, Canada’s Prairie Province

It’s Saskatchewan week in Mexico! Learn about this unique Canadian province and the opportunities it offers.

Saskatchewan is big—really big

The province of Saskatchewan is about 650,000 km2—about one-third of Mexico. We’re home to 40 per cent of Canada’s farmland and an estimated 100,000 lakes and rivers. We are situated in the middle of Canada, and our southern region borders the United States specifically Montana and North Dakota.

We have an export-based economy, and Mexico is a key partner

We export nearly 70 per cent of what we produce, and many of those products can be found in Mexico. In 2024, we exported over $637.6 million in goods to Mexico. Among those exports, 93 per cent were related to agri-foods. Canola oil, canola seed and non-durum wheat were our top three exports. That means there is a good chance that some of your favourite foods are made from ingredients produced in Saskatchewan!

We’re world leaders in many sectors

Saskatchewan is known for world-class natural resources and industries. We have the world’s largest high-quality deposits of uranium and potash. Our pulse sector, known for its lentils, peas, beans, and chickpeas, is also the largest in the world, and our cutting-edge research facilities have developed hundreds of new crop varieties. We’re also home to the planet’s largest carbon capture, utilization and storage project, and we’re one of the only places that produces crude oil, natural gas, uranium, biofuels, geothermal, wind, solar and hydropower. What’s more – we are proud to do it all sustainably. Learn more about our sustainability journey on sustainablesk.ca.

Saskatchewan has an office in the heart of Mexico

In 2022, Saskatchewan opened its first-ever trade and investment office in Mexico. The office is based in Mexico City and is led by Horacio Cuevas and a dedicated team that is passionate about strengthening the our regions’ relationships.
