Connected to the World

Canada is the only country to have Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with all other countries in the G7. It’s also the only G7 country with preferential FTA access to the world’s two largest economies, the European Union and the United States.

Canada continues to negotiate new FTAs, expanding Saskatchewan’s reach into international markets. In addition to FTAs, Canada is also part of several foreign investment promotion and protection agreements, mutual recognition agreements, and plurilateral agreements that help facilitate trade and investment and make it easier to do business across borders.

Connected within Canada

Saskatchewan has signed two internal trade agreements that provide for the free movement of goods, services and workers across Canadian jurisdictions. This includes the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, and one specifically with the four western provinces called the New West Partnership Trade Agreement (NWPTA). This has allowed Saskatchewan to be one of the most open and competitive economies in Canada.
