Saskatchewan presence at Canada in Asia 2024: Agri-Food and Climate Solutions

In February, the Saskatchewan Singapore Office will be participating in Canada in Asia 2024 (CIAC2024) to share the province’s compelling food and energy security story.

Organized by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and supported by Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Trade and Export Development, CIAC2024 brings together business leaders, policymakers, researchers, and innovators from across Asia and Canada. The conference provides an ideal platform for exchanging perspectives, knowledge, ideas, and for creating collaborative partnerships in the critical sectors of agri-food and climate solutions.

The first half of the conference, CIAC2024: Agri-food, takes place from February 26-27. CIAC2024: Climate Solutions will be held February 28-29, 2024.

During the Agri-food portion of the conference, leaders from the private sector, governments, universities, and other institutions from across Asia and Canada in agri-food and related industries will meet for networking and inter-disciplinary discussion on some of the most pressing issues in the agri-food space. This includes Canadian contributions to food security across Asia, sustainability in agriculture and agri-food, and opportunities for collaboration in agtech, biotech, water tech, and agricultural science.

The ASEAN region is a key economic relationship for the province, and agri-food products are essential exports. As Canada’s premier exporter to the region, Saskatchewan achieved a record $2.9 billion in exports in 2022, marking a 119 per cent increase since 2018. Key exports include $2.4 billion in potash, $431.5 million in non-durum wheat, and $33.2 million in peas.

CIAC2024: Climate Solutions will gather Asia-based and Canada-based leaders in the private sector, government, and universities to connect and learn from each other’s priorities and experiences in climate policy, climate technologies, climate research, and climate finance. Given the significant impacts of climate change globally this is an exciting and unique opportunity to forge collaborative approaches that harness the skills, expertise, and innovations of those on both sides of the Pacific.
