Energy

Powering the future more sustainably.

Crude oil, natural gas, lithium, helium, uranium, biofuels, geothermal, solar, wind and hydropower. Saskatchewan is one of the rare jurisdictions that has them all and we are continuing to drive new innovation and investment in clean technologies.

Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)

Saskatchewan has well-developed strategies to reduce methane emissions and promote CCUS. We offer competitive incentives, world class geology and outcome-based regulations to firmly position us for large scale projects. We have the largest carbon capture utilization and storage project in the world.

Strong Support Systems for Oil and Gas

Our energy industry benefits from a competitive and stable regulatory environment and a strong network of suppliers alongside a supportive government.

Oil

We’re Canada’s second largest oil producer, the sixth largest onshore producer in Canada and the U.S., and we have estimated oil reserves of almost 1.6 billion barrels. Saskatchewan has excellent refining and upgrading capacity and an extensive network of pipelines. As part of our leadership in petroleum research, we’re using CO2 from our CCUS projects to recover depleted reservoir oil that otherwise might be left in the ground.

Natural Gas

We’re the third largest natural gas producer in Canada with 130.3 billion cubic feet produced in 2024 and estimated recoverable gas reserves of 0.4 trillion cubic feet.
